Salzman designs their bass rosin to be usable by professionals and beginners alike; they claim that their formulations help beginners minimize bow "squeak" while allowing professional players to acheive superior projection and tone quality. The #9 formulation is their "medium" grade rosin which is suitable for a large variety of climate and humidity. It has excellent grip and clarity without sounding harsh or "dirty."
Some players describe the #9 rosin as splitting the difference between a popular sticky rosin that comes in a red cup, and a popular slightly harder rosin that comes in a blue cup. It can be a bit powdery if you use too much, so it's recommended to use sparingly until you become familiar with it.
Oversized, long-lasting cake of rosin is furnished in a metal cup with a large plastic airtight container.
