This very interesting set came to my attention when a customer who was a bassist had just acquired a cello. She was interested in playing solo repertoire on the instrument, but didn't want to learn the new cello 5ths tuning. When I found these strings for her, she was very happy, and grabbed a few sets!
Note that these are tuned one octave higher than a bass typically would be - they will not work as "bass" strings on a cello, if you're looking to craft a small electric upright out of a cheap cello, unfortunately these probably won't do the job (but you might check out the 10th scale Helicore Orchestra strings we also carry.) But for a bassist looking to stretch his or her wings on a new, smaller instrument, this could just be the ticket.
Note: We sell this special-order item only as a complete set.
Helicore Fourths-Tuning Cello strings contain a stranded steel core, providing quick bow response and short settling time. These strings are designed to be tuned in bass tuning (E, A, D, G, low to high). By using a familiar tuning, bass and guitar players quickly adapt to cello.
