The maple fingerboards on this page are sized and shaped to fit Kay and Engelhardt basses, or may be modified for other instruments or projects. They are unfinished and will require "finish-sanding." You may also wish to stain and/or "ebonize" the boards to increase their durability, as maple is a softer wood than ebony, rosewood, or jatoba.
Average measurements are as follows. Note: These boards are a slight bit inconsistent, as some have been more "finished" than others -- but they are all sized to fit the common dimensions of Engelhardt basses. But be aware that there may be some minor disparities. Such is the way with bargain basement items!
- 1.5" wide at nut
- 33.75" in length
- 3.5" wide at end
These boards are thinner than our deluxe ebony boards, as is typical of Engelhardts, which had slim necks.
They are actually pretty nicely done, so they could be a great project board that's easier to work on than harder wood boards would be.
We have ONE with a Romberg Bevel ("E" bevel, an optional flat area under the E string you'll find on some basses), and if it's available above, it's still available for purchase. The rest are "round" boards with no flat bevel.
