Description

These strings generate a lot of requests, and I can say that they are popular among jazz players who want a little more brightness and a smoother bowing surface out of their gut strings. A more "traditional" wound gut string would be the Olivs, also from Pirastro.

All strings are gut which is wrapped in a flat silver tape for more sustain and smoothness.

Pirastro says: The gut string!

  • excellent bass string for orchestra and Jazz bassists
  • excellent & brilliant sound
  • high ability of modulation
  • long sustain
  • fits perfectly for Arco and Pizz

Important note about fitting these strings on 7/8 and 4/4 basses:

Due to special production techniques, the Eudoxas are made with the winding section a little shorter than most other Pirastro strings; they should fit most any 3/4 size bass, but if you have a larger-size bass, you might want to contact us prior to ordering - we're more than happy to measure the strings and compare to the measurements on your bass to ensure that these strings will fit BEFORE you order! Pirastro does make a 4/4-specific version of this string by special order (they cost a bit more and may be subject to a brief delay while we obtain them from Pirastro in Germany).

    Pirastro Eudoxa Strings

Posted by Bruce Purdy on May 22nd 2024

This string set is tonally well-balanced, and equally responsive. Eudoxa's work for jazz and especially classical performance. Gollihur had the item in stock and sent it quickly, with detailed, helpful information regarding changing strings and installation.

Extremely finicky and fragile silver wrap

Posted by Unknown on Dec 9th 2022

I went through several of these on a bass that’s never had issues with strings before (no sharp edges, burrs, etc. and the strings properly installed) and ran into failures where the wrap broke on an otherwise perfect-condition string. It was bad enough that I even was unlucky enough to get one with a broken wrap before it even made it on my bass! The Gollihur folks took care of me no problem (as always- love you all), but it added a lot of frustration and delay to getting my bass strung up properly. Gollihur stocks many other great options, and especially for the price of these, I’d look at just about anything else.
