Description

Andy Fuchs has created some amazing amps to re-imagine the classic sounds of well-known amps, and we've got those in our "amp heads" section. He's also got some really well-made cabinets to couple with those sweet, sweet amps - or with another head that you already have.

There are two models of the 1x12" cabinet; one features a Ceramic Celestion driver for a more old-school appeal and a bit more power handling, while the other has a more modern custom Neodymium driver.

Both cabinets are extremely compact, at around 16" x 16" x 14" deep, with a single tuned rear port, internal acoustic treatment, a metal powder-coated speaker grill with Fuchs logo, dual Neutrik Speakon and ¼” (combination jacks), and feature Penn-Elcom hardware throughout. Molded plastic locking corners allow for stable stacking, while a recessed steel handle is top mounted for easy one-handed transport.

The actual cabinet bodies are made of an ultra-light 11/16” Plywood with an Italian poplar core and birch jacket, and they are coated in a rugged, textured sprayed black latex coating which will not crack, peel, or require replacement or repair like conventional Tolex does. The cabinets are fully corner blocked and braced to eliminate stray resonances or vibrations, even at the most extreme sound levels.

Basically, these are super-well made, durable, easy-to-tote; gear you can count on, night after night, gig after gig.

Both of these cabs provide a formidable, solid low end, a rich midrange, and a thick, percussive attack with the perfect amount of clarity and transparency; and that last thing is something I value highly when amplifying upright bass. But you can certainly use them for electric basses as well, and push them with a more "character-based" sound if you like... these cabs can definitely take it, and make you sound great while doing so.

Recommended amp capabilities

These speakers are rated at 300w (Neo version) and 500w (Ceramic version) at 8ohms (either cab).

Fuchs amp? Either version of their amazing bass amps (tube/solid state) will do very well with these cabs, and either power level will handily "push" a single cab. The higher-wattage version would be recommended if you need the power and volume to use two cabs at once.

Already have an amp (from another manufacturer?) Here's what to know about matching it with these cabs: a solid-state amp with a rating (at 8ohms) between 200-600w is probably going to be excellent for either cab.

If you have substantially MORE wattage than the cabinet is rated for (>200w higher than rating), be conservative with your master volume levels.

If you have LESS wattage than the cabinet is rated for, be smart about not pushing TOO hard; if the amp sounds like it's "farting" (pardon the expression) then back off the volume and/or bass control - underpowering a speaker and causing the amp to break up into ugly digital distortion can damage your speakers.

If you have a BIT more wattage than the rating calls for, I personally consider this "the sweet spot" - you should get efficient sound production without stressing the amp or the speakers.
