Description

A commonly recommended set of etudes for serious students of the doublebass, Volume I contains 32 studies, while Volume II contains 25 additional etudes. These exercises are from the etudes composed by Joseph Emanuel Storch (1841-1877) and Josef HrabÄ› (1816-1870).

Some are adapted from Storch's 25 Etüden für Kontrabass. During his time with the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the German symphony that bills itself as "the oldest civic symphony orchestra in the world," Storch composed many etudes as well as concert pieces for the double bass, despite only living to 36 years old.

Czech contrabassist Josef HrabÄ› is revered for his contributions to bass pedagogy, and was considered by most as a true virtuoso of the instrument. He founded the Prague school of double bass playing, and was a professor of double bass at the Prague Conservatory. He was an instructor to František Simandl (1840-1912), who would himself go on to further his tutor’s work through his own (now ubiquitous) method books.

This collection from these two prolific composers is highly familiar to a great number of bassists from the past several generations, and contains intermediate to advanced etudes in a variety of rhythmic patterns and keys.
