Description
All tuners are not created equal! We've carried a fair number of electronic tuners over the years, and we've always carefully vetted them to ensure that they actually work with a double bass - the unusual and complex overtones of our big, long-scale instruments can often confuse cheap, "lesser" tuners.
But "affordable" no longer has to mean compromise. This reasonably-priced tuner has excellent performance, as it's been optimized for use on large, acoustic stringed instruments (specifically, string bass and cello). The Eclipse chromatic clip-on tuner offers fast, accurate chromatic tuning on and off the stage. The tuner features a full color vertical display, auto power-off, and pitch calibration in a discreet, compact design. The multi-swivel action allows for the perfect viewing angle and can be mounted to the bridge (recommended*) or in front of or behind the headstock on right- and left-handed instruments.
Using this tuner is quick and easy, just clip it on and tap the power button, nice and simple. It even has an auto power-off funtion that saves its battery life if you forget to turn it off. And it can be adjusted for various non-"A=440" tuning options with built-in calibration.
Simple, effective, useful, and inexpensive. Those are some of my favorite things when it comes to bass accessories!
NOTE: The tuner arrives in a nice retail package, and has a protective/decorative film over the display. You must REMOVE this protective film to use the tuner!

* On solid-body electric instruments, you can usually get away with putting a clip tuner on the headstock. However, with other tuners we've tried, you usually need to clip it on the bridge, which is where the cleanest vibrations can be found. In our experience on several instruments, this one does seem to work pretty well when clipped to the pegbox (headstock) - but D'Addario does still recommend putting it on the bridge for best/quickest tuning response. I say, if it works on the pegbox and you prefer it there, roll with it!
New RECHARGEABLE model!
D'Addario has released a new version of this great tuner. If you're the type to be concerned about batteries dying at inopportune moments, this one is for you!
Features a built-in rechargeable battery, with a USB-C charge port (short charging cable included) - you can charge it with most any USB power source. A full charge provides 24+ hours of tuning.
All of the other features are the same - optimized for the low string instruments, it provides excellent tuning stability and accuracy on the upright bass.

Eclipse Clip-on tuner
Get in tune in no time! Super easy to use by clipping onto the bridge and plucking to tune. Highly impressed with its accuracy and happy about spending less time in tuning!

Best bass tuner ever ... but with one weak spot
I have a bunch of tuners for guitar and bass. This was just perfect attached to the bass bridge -- easy to read, bright, and way more effective than a Snark on my upright. Every bit as good on my Precision. Only downside: the first time it got knocked off the bridge, the socket attaching the computer to the clip shattered. I'll buy another and be more careful.

Eclipse Clip-on Electronic Chromatic Tuner
This tuner not only does an excellent job of helping me quickly tune up, it has revolutionized my practice routine. It is more reliable than any other clip-on I've tried, rarely picking up overtones and misidentifying the note. It also responds quickly. It will track notes played up to about 90bpm. As a result, I've found it useful when I'm working through a difficult chromatic passage. While it does automatically turn itself off, I haven't found this too annoying. And in any case, it would be a bad habit to lean on the tuner rather than one's ears.

Good but imperfect tuner
This tuner seems accurate and has far better and more rapid response to bass notes than any other tuner I have tried. The down side is the "auto off" feature is really annoying. It makes it frustrating for using the tuner while practicing scales or etudes. An improved version would shut off only when the tuner is idle, or at least after a somewhat longer interval (say 30 minutes).

Low down tuner
Works great. Easy to position so you can see it on the bridge and the large display is easy to read. I have mine flat on the bridge. Reads the low notes very well, even the open E.
