Ultimate Affordable Bass Head
The BP-200 bass amplifier from Phil Jones Bass redefines tone to go in a no compromise, high performance 200 Watt design that can fit into a backpack for the gigging, studio, and practicing bassist on the go. The BP-200 is packed with the features and inspirational PJB tone that musicians have come to expect while its size (6.9” W x 2.1” H x 6.7”D) and weight (2.5 Lbs) and street price of $375 make it the ultimate in affordable portable bass amps.
The BP-200 is a D-Class power amplifier and a pure class A single channel pre-amplifier housed in a machined aluminum/steel enclosure. D-Class amplifiers are highly efficient and therefore produce far less heat than the conventional class AB amplifiers. Other features include a switchable input for active and passive basses, mute switch, 3 Band EQ, headphone out jack, variable input sensitivity control to match instrument output with amplifier, sub sonic filter to reduce excessive loudspeaker cone motion, balanced line out with pre/post EQ and ground lift switches, pre amp output, line out jack with Neutrik high-current socket which can accommodate ¼ jack or a Speakon plug, 200 Watts RMS at 4 Ohms and 120 Watts RMS at 8 Ohms.
The BP-200 will work on any AC voltage from 100- 240 volts AC enabling it to conveniently travel worldwide without having to switch to local AC supply voltages.

Better Than Most
I've played one gig with this amp pushing an Acoustic Image newest Coda cabinet, Love it. Natural sound, great midrange. I ran it flat with an MXR bass preamp/direct box. I play a 40's Juzek with , solo Perpetuals, and a Shadow pick up (underwood style) I'm very happy with this rig.

A Clear Winner
Bought this amp for its small size and weight, but in a month of use in rehearsals and gigs, I’ve come to appreciate how well it amplifies my upright basses. It’s the classic “my bass only louder” idea, and it maintains that sound from soft to “turned up to 11”. As the volume increases, the bass doesn’t get boomy as long as I back off the bass eq knob. It’s surprising how effective this is at maintaining the right amount of bass in a boomy environment without a high pass filter. The high and mid controls do a good job of achieving (at least the illusion of) the low-volume sound even when standing near the drums in a 17-piece big band. The knobs don't max out at the halfway point either. They make audible changes in eq and volume through their whole range, which is very useful. I worried about not having an onboard high pass adjustment as in my bigger Acoustic Image amp, but with this unit, it hasn’t been necessary. I’ve been using it with two speakers, the 8-ohm AI UpShot and the 4-ohm AI DoubleShot. I will say that the 4-ohm speaker is necessary to milk enough power from this little amp for really loud settings. For the month or so I’ve had it,, the BP-200 has become my go-to amp for big band, jazz combo and klezmer settings. The DI function works great for running through a PA. I should mention the amp originally had an issue — a hum from insufficient grounding — when I first got it. Gollihur send a quick replacement which also developed the hum, and offered to give me a refund. I decided to wait to hear from PJB whether the problem could be fixed. They discovered their original method of grounding was fragile and fixed the problem with a wire connection to the ground nut. I’m told they were making that change in all the units. Meanwhile I was able to keep the second humming amp till the repaired one was shipped to me directly from PJB with a shipping label to send them the one that still hummed. I appreciate the good customer service from PJB and especially Mark Gollihur. The repaired amp has absolutely no hum, and I recommend the BP-200m to any upright bassist searching for a light and compact amp.
