This began as a part of the companion Double Bas s Links page, where this Double Bass Luthier Project was born. In July 1998 we began to ask other bassists to contribute names and contact information for luthiers who work on and sell basses, as a resource for others needing such information. It outgrew the original page and now stands on its own. While "luthier" can be used to refer to instrument builders, on our list, it is aimed mostly at those who can repair and set up basses. However, some of the members of this list also -- or exclusively -- build instruments. The bass links page includes sources of basses, where you will find both retail stores and suppliers as well as artisans who craft double basses. The following have been received or found by me so far. Please contribute information to expand this list. Your fellow bassists and I thank you! Please understand that this directory is simply a listing of people and shops that have been submitted to us. Those listed are not necessarily endorsed or recommended by us, so "vet" your luthier carefully. Anyone can claim to be a bass repairman, regardless of their actual knowledge or experience.
