Deep Reds - Treated Plain Gut D and G strings

We have several gut string options from several different manufacturers. Aquila's offerings, which are made in Italy, provide a great value and excellent playability.

The typical defects of traditional gut strings are well known: poor weather resistance, poor durability and a surface that restricts the movement of the fingers of the left hand on the fingerboard (which is not the case with metal strings).

With this type of gut string, Aquila says that they have solved all these problems once and for all: thanks to a special surface treatment, these gut strings have a hard and perfectly smooth surface, almost as if they were made of glass. This surface also creates a protective layer against air, humidity, and other environmental factors - so the durability and stability to climate change are significantly increased, without the sound under the fingers and under the bow being affected.

The strings are made in dark red in homage to double bass player Scott LaFaro, who favoured gut strings of this colour.
