Preserving our "Humanity"

Preserving our "Humanity"

Our site has a very distinctive style and flow. And that comes from our longtime dedication to being less of a "store" that's trying to sell you gear -- and more of a "bass-playing buddy" who is showing you some really cool bass stuff he found. That vibe started way back in the late 90s, when Bob was getting K&K pickups at "musician to musician discounts" and raving about them in his own words. You could (and still can) hear his voice (and hopefully, mine) in the product descriptions, tip sheets, and other information here at Gollihur Music.

Most of our product descriptions are written in our own words, with care (though we do often copy some useful content, with permission, from our manufacturer's product info -- no reason to re-invent the wheel). But the writing style here is distinctly ours and that will never change.

So none of our content has been generated - or even suggested - by AI. We don't use AI for improving our content, either. The closest we come? I guess it might be letting MS Word's built in spell-check help us to catch the occasional typo or brain freeze, but that's the same engine that's been built-in for decades and isn't really AI, either.

So, my reluctance to use AI isn't because I'm opposed to the excessive resource usage (which is significant), or because I'm worried about the imminent takover by our robotic overlords (tinfoil hat notwithstanding, it's not entirely implausible), or even the fact that AI is more concerned with user approval than factual accuracy (read up on it).

Rather, I'm against using A.I. here at Gollihur Music, simply because AI sucks at getting our voice right. And it's far too important to me to not give that up over a few saved minutes or keystrokes.

I hope you agree.

Our official policy on the non-use of AI is here
