Description
The "Flat-Chrome" and "Original Flat-Chrome" are two different string sets. See below:
Flat-Chromesteel:
The core material is a high-tensile rope made from carbon steel, which is subsequently wound with chrome steel. The arco for these strings is very clear, with a brilliant sound and very quick response. Particularly good for solo playing, as they have great projection and a sound that stands out. According to Pirastro, though, a precise bowing technique is essential. Players report that they work well for pizzicato, for jazz and other contemporary styles. They're characterized by a strong, loud sound, with long sustain. Their smooth surface and rope-core design make them a bit easier on the hands, too.
Original Flat-Chrome:
Like the updated set above, the "Original" formulation of the Flat-Chrome's core material is a high-tensile rope made from carbon steel which is wound with chrome steel. This is an outstanding set for arco, which can withstand a powerful and heavy bowing arm. They have a particularly brilliant sound with a short sustain, and a big, powerful sound with great projection, which is slightly greater than Original Flexocor. They are instantly playable and absolutely stable, with very quick response.
Since we're not as personally familiar with these strings, our descriptions of them are primarily based on manufacturer information, but we're happy to add more info as we discover it -- and feel free to Email us your experiences with them!
