Description

So, you're not a luthier - but you need to make some repairs on your bass. Perhaps the fingerboard is coming loose, or a seam has popped open a little. And maybe you don't have a luthier nearby, or can't afford the time or money to take it to a pro. Or you might just be a DIY-type person who wants to fix your own stuff. I get it!

But please, PLEASE don't use regular wood glue to make that type of repair! If you're repairing a split/crack/etc., that's fine - that's not something that you'll ever want to come back apart for, and that is what wood glue is for. But a fingerboard will eventually need to be replaced, and a bass top may need to be taken off someday to access the inside of the bass for repairs. That's why instrument-makers and luthiers use "hide glue" for these situations. The specially made glue has a sensitivity to moisture, which allows for easy disassembly of parts. In short, you can use light steam to "pop apart" seams or joints that are held together with hide glue. This is critical when it comes to restoration or the repair of musical instruments - if it was done with wood glue, the joint would be stronger than the wood itself, and the wood would splinter and split if you tried to take it apart. That's a bad time.

So USE HIDE GLUE for this stuff. Please.

You'll find that classic, "real" hide glue is actually supplied in these little wax-like pellets that you melt in a special heated glue pot. A luthier will most likely be using this old-school type of hide glue for their repairs and replacements. But again, like we said, you're a DIY'er with one bass to fix, in a pinch, and you don't want to invest in that kind of equipment for a single repair, right?

Cue the marketing talk:

Titebond Genuine Hide Glue is the first hide glue to be offered in a liquid, ready-to-use form. It requires no mixing, heating or stirring. Professional woodworkers use Titebond Genuine Hide Glue for its long assembly time, exceptional strength and unique crackling effect on wood. Titebond Genuine Hide Glue provides superior creep-resistance, offers excellent sandability and is unaffected by finishes.

So, yeah - the affordability and convenience of a squeeze-bottle -- like you used for your pasta art in first grade -- but it's the real stuff that won't paint you into the corner of an unbreakable bond down the road.

So, that's that - offered here in a convenient 4oz bottle, ready to use.
