Want to have the convenience of adjusters on your bass bridge? We have a few options for adjusters; aluminum one- and two-piece adjusters, as well as deluxe ebony (wood) adjusters. These are excellent quality adjusters that can be used to "convert" a fixed bridge to an adjustable, or upgrade an existing adjustable to better quality.
Proper and precise installation is key for excellent (or even serviceable) results - a luthier can install adjusters for you, but many of our customers choose to install these adjusters themselves. A drill press would be highly recommended to get the most precise hole and tap (if applicable).
All adjusters have a "knurled" surface on the edges for easy turning. (Still, you should always loosen the tension on all four strings before adjusting the bridge height!)
Black Aluminum UNC 1/4-20 thread height one-piece adjustment wheels, set of two. The one-piece adjusters are lightweight, solid aluminum adjusters that are virtually identical to those that are installed in several of the adjustable bridges we sell. I've made them available separately by popular demand, for those who want to upgrade a set or install them in an existing bridge themselves.
They are anodized in black for a low-profile, classy look - they're not shiny imitation brass, like those sold by some online retailers. Made of solid, high-quality aluminum, they are consistently machined and provide excellent sound transmission.
As a one-piece adjuster, you'll need a 1/4"x20 thread tap tool (purchased at a hardware store) to install, as you have to thread one side of the bridge to accommodate the adjustment -- the other side is a plain straight 1/4" hole.
Silver Aluminum 1/4" two-piece adjustment wheels, set of two. The big plus with a two-piece adjuster is that you don't have to tap the wood of the bridge; you simply drill 1/4"" holes in each foot and the bridge body (1/2" deep on the "fixed" side, depending on whether you want "threads up" or "threads down") and insert the adjuster post. The wheel rides up and down the threads, allowing for adjustment of the bridge height.
Made of very nice aluminum, they are polished for an attractive finish - and, like the black solid ones, are consistently machined and should have little to no discernable effect on tone if properly installed.
Ebony two-piece adjustment wheels, set of two. Like the aluminum two-piece adjusters, you don't have to tap the wood of the bridge for these deluxe solid ebony adjusters; drill 1" deep, 5/16" holes in one side (decide ahead of time whether you want "threads up" or "threads down") and insert the non-threaded adjuster post. The threaded side is a bit thicker (around 25/64") so drill a wider hole on that side. The wheel rides up and down the threads, allowing for adjustment of the bridge height. The thickness of the wheel is approx. 7.8mm. Its diameter is approx. 31.4mm.
Beautifully crafted in Germany of solid, high-quality dark ebony, they operate smoothly and should have little to no discernable effect on tone if properly installed.
We don't have our own instructions for installation of adjusters - the tips in the descriptions above is all we have for you - but we also carry several good books on building and setup of basses which cover the subject well. You can also find a couple sources of information on our links page.
If you don't have the tools or skills to install the adjusters, consider getting our adjustable bridge - which includes the one-piece adjusters PRE-INSTALLED into a quality maple bridge! See "related products," below.
Hi Bob and Mark Just wanted to thank you for my recent purchase of the bass adjusters (anodized aluminium)which I ordered just last Sunday. They arrived in the UK on Saturday yesterday and I installed them Saturday evening, just 1 week. I was struck by the quality which inspired confidence in fitting them. They look better than anything I've seen over in the UK. Always a tricky job fitting these but it all went smoothly for me, a former engineer, and dimensions and design were perfect.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I recently built a bridge for my upright and opted to get the wheel adjusters from Gollihur. The surface of the wheel makes them much easier to adjust--they work great. And the black looks much cooler that the brass and silver other places offer. And since I didn't say it enough, thank you.
