Includes our exclusive Gollihur Music tipsheet to get the most out of your purchaseRosin is key in getting a good bowed sound, so don't cheap out on this key ingredient to success, it can last a long time - and isn't very expensive. In fact, some bassists carry two or three different cakes just in case the environment makes another consistency better for that particular situation. When the humidity is high, the more powdery, harder rosin is usually best, and during very dry periods some stickier stuff may be needed.

Pops rosin is a very popular choice, it leans towards sticky. It is good for students and professionals alike. It comes in a convenient plastic cup with a sealing lid. You definitely don't need much, just a little dab (a couple swipes) will do ya.

Softer rosins like Pops are handy to have for when your playing environment is cold and/or dry, when a harder rosin just isn't "grabbing" enough. Here, in the humid Northeast coastal area that is Southern New Jersey, Pops can tend to be a bit goopy, especially in the hot, muggy summertime. Personally, I prefer something a bit "harder" in consistency, like the Carlsson Swedish rosin. but like anything else, it's up to you, the player, to find out what works best for you. With Pops, having FRESH cakes is definitely key; it does tend to get stale - reducing its effectiveness - when exposed to air, so it is important to seal the cap on the (included) airtight container when not in use -- your rosin will last a lot longer!

FRESH Rosin is always guaranteed

It's important for your rosin to be fresh, and in the case of Pops, that can be even more cruicial to the best playing experience. It's so important, that other stores claim to have "the freshest" Pops, supplied from the latest batches. In fact, one online store bases its entire existence on selling Pops! Well, that claim to "freshest" Pops rosin may be true for those stores, but it's also true for us. To wit:

  • We sell a lot of Pops - it's one of our most popular products - and as such, we receive brand new shipments of Pops rosin a minimum of 8-12 times a year, usually more.
  • Our Pops are coming to us from high-volume distributors; the folks at Pops Products have assured us that they regularly send big batches of fresh rosin to them.
  • Finally, we always rotate our rosin stock (not just Pops, but all of our rosin), so you never will get stale rosin from us.

    Texas Sizzle

This rosin will save your ass if you need to play in a setting that is chilly, dry, and you have little time to warm up your bow hair. It’s sticky, so a little goes a long way.

Pops' is Tops ... espeically from Gollihur!

Posted by Bill Spink on Oct 9th 2023

Many folks no doubt already know the virtues of Pops. The luthier I bought my DB from gifted me a container of another rosin when I bought my bass. It was a harder rosin, any my instructor advised to get Pops'. As it was "very sticky" and "sticky is a bassist's friend." I got some from a local store. It was better that what I had - but not as wonderful as I expected. A year later, got some from Gollihur, and this was the real stuff; i.e. nice and fresh... and properly sticky. I'm sold on Pop's, and getting from a dedicated bass supplier where I'll know it's gonna be all it should be.

I don't play arco all that much, and I've tried lots of rosin options, but this is the one I reach for when a gig calls for the bow. For me, the one cake is probably a lifetime's supply. Highly recommended!
